“I have always loved sport and being active – you couldn’t help being active growing up on a farm, and it makes me smile now when every Personal Trainer or Strength & Conditioning Coach talks about functional fitness – I was flipping tyres and carrying bales of hay (Farmer’s Walks) from a very young age!!

So, this is my story …

From the character building 12-14 hour days working on my parents farm in the South Lakes (often up to 20 plus at certain times of the year), to them encouraging me to go and do something I truly loved – science and sport = Sports Science; choosing Liverpool Polytechnic (now Liverpool John Moores University) to complete my degree and then eventually my PhD in Exercise Science, specialising in the areas of Biomechanics (understanding how the body moves) and Physiology (understanding how the body functions). Whilst studying I also had fantastic opportunities to work with Premiership Footballers, International Rugby Union and Rugby League Players, Test Cricketers, and even some of the leading athletes in the country.

After completing my academic journey in Sports Science I had ‘interesting and challenging’ days working as one of the key personnel for Albert Gubay, the entrepreneur and founder of Total Fitness Health Clubs (previously King of the low cost-high volume Supermarkets). I then set up and managed the World Class Sports Medicine and Human Performance Facility at St. George’s Park, the training home of the England Football teams. This background and experience was invaluable in the set up and launch of the onePT Personal Training & Gym model.

Throughout my career I have seen the massive benefits in the ‘adage’ – prevention is better than cure – and on a personal level, this is how I try to live my own life. I have a young family and I want to make sure my wife and I look after ourselves and set a good example to our daughter. Through onePT I believe there is an opportunity for me to give something back to the fitness industry but also and very importantly, hopefully benefit the lives of many people in terms of their own movement, health and wellbeing.”
