Sports Massage
BENEFITS OF A SPORTS MASSAGE?
-
Benefits of Sports Massage:
Improved performance, in both gym-based workouts and every day activities. Releases tension in the muscles, improves circulation and encourages the removal of lactic acid, which promotes better recovery and reduces risk of injury. Increased range of motion, which directly impacts how effective exercise is. Stress relief and improved sleep.
Is It Only Athletes That Benefit From Regular Sports Massage?
No! Tight hips and hamstrings from working at a desk stopping you from achieving full depth on a squat? Posture suffering from too many hours of manual labour without adequate recovery? Sports massages are definitely NOT just for athletes. Our modern lives often leave us with tightness, aches and pains that we tolerate until injury occurs.
What To Expect From a Sports Massage?
Sports massage is individual to everyone, as are the effects it can have. Some people find them relaxing, others feel tender for up to 72 hours following their first treatment. As a general rule, it's recommended that you allow your body 24-48 hours rest and recovery time post-massage, to allow healing of the manipulated tissues to take place. We also encourage clients to drink plenty of water following their massage to help flush the lymphatic system of toxins that can be released during the treatment.
How Often Should I Have a Sports Massage?
This is again down to everyone's individual needs, some people with injuries or who have suffered from muscle tightness for a long period of time benefit hugely from a sports massage every 1-2 weeks, whereas some people feel the benefit most from having a maintenance massage every 4 to 6 weeks. This can be discussed during your initial session and as part of the consultation process.
